How to choose lights for a corridor or an entrance hall

Other interiors

Answer:

Even though you don't spend much time in the corridor, it needs to be properly lit for safety reasons. Night lights are a good idea as well.

Corridors and entrance halls count among the rooms where we only pass through and don't hang around for too long. That doesn't mean those rooms should be dark. The opposite is true. It is necessary to have sufficient illumination for security and good orientation.

Attached ceiling lights are the ideal solution

The most suitable lighting solution for the hall is attached ceiling lights. As the name implies, they are attached directly to the ceiling. They don't hang too low which gives them the ability to light up the room as much as possible. Lights made out of opaline glass are a popular option. A less frequent solution for the corridor is a chandelier that hangs lower and can get in the way in this space.

Depending on the size and shape of the room, ceiling lights in corridors can be supplemented or completely replaced by spotlights. There are different types and shapes available. The two main types are directional spotlights (the so-called spots) and recessed spotlights. Spots are directional lights that can point to any part of the room. They are useful for highlighting decorations or design features in the room. Casting light on paintings and photographs can be accomplished even better by using picture lights. Recessed lights are a great way to create a pleasant atmosphere. They are mounted into the ceiling or added plasterboard. Some of their advantages include not getting dusty and not interrupting the straight ceiling line. Some recessed spotlights can point in various directions.

You will find spotlights to come in useful near a mirror when you check how you look before heading out. We recommend you have a look at our range of mirror lighting. We offer lights in various shapes, such as long fluorescent tubes or lamps.

Night lights are very useful

To illuminate a small corridor, you may only need a wall light that can be attached right onto the wall or it can take the form of a decorative lamp. Wall lighting may also be a good supplement to ceiling light in larger corridors.

If you frequently visit the bathroom or go drink water at night, you will appreciate night lights in your corridor. Certain types switch on automatically when they detect movement. Others provide dim light all through the night. Both of these types can switch themselves off automatically. With night lights, you will no longer have to worry about bumping into something in the dark. Another advantage is they offer lower light intensity compared to traditional lights, which means they won't wake you up too much. You can also buy small plug-in lamps.
