Do you need nice and also practical kitchen lighting? There is really a wide range of products on the market, so there are really a lot of products to choose from. First of all, light up the worktop properly (you can read more in the article How to choose the best kitchen under cabinet lighting) and then you can look around for ceiling lights or chandeliers.
A chandelier with adjustable height is the best
If you have a small kitchen with a low ceiling, we recommend that you choose attached light, which sticks to the ceiling and visually magnifies the room. However, most of the current kitchens are quite spacious and with normal or high ceiling, that is why in most of the cases people purchase a
chandelier for a kitchen. A chandelier is also often combined with
suspended ceiling lights or with
ceiling lights or with
wall lights. Of course, everything depends on the shape and size of the kitchen, but it is important, that there are no dark spots in your kitchen in the evening.
We have already mentioned a
kitchen chandelier, which is usually placed above a dining table.
We recommend you choosing either pull-down chandelier or a chandelier with adjustable height (it is possible to shorten a suspension chain). Especially pull-down chandelier allows you to adjust suspension height as you need. In general, the chandelier should be placed just above the eye height of the seated person, about 60 cm above the table-top. However, make sure that the bulb is not longer than a chandelier shade, because in such case the bulb could dazzle people sitting at the table.
A chandelier above a dining table and a bar
As far as the design of the
kitchen chandelier is concerned, it depends on your taste. However, it is good to keep in mind, that the light should match the whole interior, and this is particularly the case with kitchens connected with a living room. Remember, that sometimes less is more. If you have your kitchen furnished in rustic style (most often dark wooden furniture) we recommend natural
rattan chandeliers or
stained glass chandeliers Tiffany. For trendy kitchens, we recommend that you select
modern pendant chandeliers, which are most often made of glass and metal. If you prefer something more antique yet still luxurious, you might be interested in
rustic and
crystal chandeliers.
A kitchen chandelier is not only suitable above a dining table, but it is also great above a bar counter. Bar counters are usually long, for this reason, the most suitable are pendant chandeliers, which consist of several lights placed side by side.
And one more advice at the end: If you are not quite sure how to match all lights, especially when you need your kitchen to match with your living room (you can read more about lighting in a living room in the article How to choose a light for a living room), we recommend that you purchase lights of the same collection.
